Chiemeka Arinze, a co-defendant with alleged billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, who is also called Evans, has died in prison.
Evans alongside Joseph Emeka, Chiemeka Arinze and Udeme Upong, are standing trial before Judge Oluwatoyin Taiwo of Special Offences Court in Ikeja, for the attempted kidnapping of Chief Vincent Obianodo, the chairman of the Young Shall Grow Motors. They face seven counts charges of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to kidnap, attempted kidnapping, sale and transfer of firearms. Report has it that Chiemeka Arinze died on Friday, November 26, 2021.
The source said the lawyer for the deceased defendant filed for bail in court last week over the illness of the defendant. The source also said that the prosecution, in this case, is approaching today (Monday) and that the request for release on bail is expected to be heard before the death of the defendant was known. It was learned that Arinze, who was ill, was rushed from prison to a general hospital on Friday, where he later died.
